The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy is a fully accredited Law Enforcement Training Academy governed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education. The Commission audited the academy in August of 1996 and rated it as "Exceeds Expectations" with the following remarks quoted from Program Director Guilermo Cano’s letter to Sheriff King: "The dedication and professionalism exhibited by your staff is clearly indicative of a very progressive training program." The report also cited the high pass rate received by students taking the state administered Jailer Examination.

Since 1995, over 4751 students from numerous agencies have attended a variety of classes conducted by the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Department Training Academy. The majority of these students were employed with law enforcement agencies within Brazoria County; however, students from other agencies throughout the state of Texas, other states, and even some foreign countries, have also attended.

It is the goal of the Brazoria County Sheriff’ Department Training Academy to provide training for law enforcement and correctional officers that meets or exceeds the highest standards attainable. The realization of this goal is coming about through the state of the art shooting range now in use and the soon to come "skid car" driver training vehicle. The implementation of this training will address two of the most critical areas encountered by modern law enforcement.
