BRAZORIA COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT NARCOTICS UNIT |
![]() |
| In 1981, newly elected Sheriff E. J. "Joe" King, saw a need for a specialized group of individuals to investigate narcotics related criminal activity in Brazoria County. In cooperation with the Chiefs of Police in various cities in Brazoria County, a grant was sought from the Texas Narcotics Control Program allowing for the creation of the Special Investigative Unit, (S.I.U.).
However, in 1993, due to the financial strain on the smaller agencies in the County in providing one officers salary and a vehicle to the SIU, since the grant would not cover those items, a decision was made to disband the SIU group. The Sheriff decided to ask for funding from Commissioners Court to absorb the current members of the SIU group, thus was born the 1st Brazoria County Sheriffs Department Narcotics Unit.
This unit is attached to the Criminal Investigation Division and is primarily assigned to the task of the detection of narcotics trafficking. The various members of the unit have numerous years of experience in the field of Narcotics investigations. The unit also responds to the requests for assistance from smaller agencies while also working with other larger State and Federal agencies.
