Livestock/Animal
Control:

The Brazoria County
Sheriff’s Office
assumed the
responsibility of
the Rabies/Animal
Control Division
from the Brazoria
County Health
Office in late
1985. In January of
1996 the transfer
was complete and the
division consisted
of two animal
control officer’s
and one vehicle to
service all of the
unincorporated areas
of Brazoria County.
There were no kennel
facilities until the
early part of 1987.
A kennel was built
at that time and in
still in use today.
In 1987 another
vehicle was assigned
allowing more
coverage of the
county.
In 1995, to better
serve the needs of
the citizens for
calls for service, a
request was made to
commissioners court
by Sheriff King, for
two more Animal
Control Deputies and
move the Livestock
Deputy from
investigations to
Animal Control. This
request was granted
and Livestock/Animal
Control was moved to
the
Patrol Division.
The Livestock
position calls for
one Deputy. Animal
Control now has 4
Animal Control
Officers and one
secretary to take
calls for service.
These 4 A.C.O.
officers work 12 hrs
shifts and work
three days on and
three days off,
giving the county
coverage seven days
a week. The average
calls for service
per day is 20.
