Crime Stoppers Crime Stoppers is a non-profit, citizen-based program that works in conjunction with law enforcement to raise awareness of crimes and provide monetary incentives to witnesses to come forth with information to solve crimes. Brazoria County Crime Stoppers changed it's name Angleton Area Crime Stoppers in 1998 to reflect more involvement throughout southern Brazoria County. Although based in Angleton, Brazoria County Crime Stoppers receives information concerning crimes anywhere and Crime Stoppers will pay rewards regardless of the location of a crime if it results in an arrest. |

ABSCONDERS In May 2001, the
top 10 Wanted Absconders started running each Sunday in The Facts.
The feature is very popular and results in more tips each week on the
whereabouts of people who are not fulfilling their obligations to the
county and their victims. In November 2001, the Crime of the Week
began appearing in eight local newspapers and weekly free papers.
The Alvin Sun Advertiser, Pearland Journal and the Pearland Reporter
also publish this column.

| PERSONNEL
A volunteer board of directors
oversees the operations. The directors meet once a month and are
elected to server a 2 year term. Their primary purpose is to
approve all rewards paid by Crime Stoppers, and other duties as outlined
by the laws.

| How Crime Stoppers is funded Brazoria County Crime Stoppers is a Texas chartered, non-profit organization primarily funded by the fees assessed by a judge for those people receiving probation. We also receive tax-deductible donations from the community and grant money from the Texas Institute for Criminal Justice.
